SATURDAY MAY 12, 2007.
Because of the autograph session Jensen had before the coffee lounge he was about 30-45 minutes late for his talk with us. We didn't mind at all though. We drank tea and coffee and talked while we waited and it was nice to talk to some of the other fans in a more secluded area. (A small, hot, crammy room without windows.)
Andy, friends with
But, unfortunately, after the incident security got a lot more 'efficient' and 'effective' around Jensen so when he finally arrived to the coffee lounge room both his bodyguards, one of the organisers of the con, plus one or two stewards were there to make sure none of us girls would throw ourselves at him. There were additional rules of security at the panels with Jensen too. None of us were allowed to leave our seats while Jensen was in the same room. I understand they had to keep him safe but it felt weird and kinda unfair to have people watch us like we were some kind of criminals who wanted to hurt Jensen. (And all this because some crazy fangirl couldn't keep her calm.) Anyway, so with one bodyguard guarding the door outside and with the other remaining with the rest of us in the room our coffee lounge with Jensen was officially on.
Jensen walked inside the room, smiled and greeted us, took off his green jacket (such a nice jacket by the way) and threw it over the back of a chair before sitting down (in a comfortable slouch). Before telling you what he said I gotta tell you this...Jensen walking in and being so beautiful and so nice, and so totally and utterly normal, kinda had my mind spinning. I was very excited to have won a seat at the coffee lounge with him (I usually never win anything) and so I was concentrating more on watching him and listening to him answering our questions than to try and remember the exact words he used. I will use quotation marks but I'm not saying I have exact quotes of what Jensen said. Also, I'm not 100% sure every piece of information is in correct order, but who cares right? At least you'll know what was said behind that closed door on Saturday afternoon, May 12 2007:
"Hi!"
Hi.
*jokingly:* (since obviously the majority of the fans attending the con were women:) "I thought I'd enter the room and there'd be just guys in here."
*laughter*
"How are you?"
Good.
"Have you enjoyed the day/con so far?"
Yeah, it's been great. How are you?
"Good/fine, just a bit tired. I woke up at 5 am this morning, still a bit jetlagged, just came from the west coast. When I woke up I was like; 'I have three more hours before I have to get up. Go to sleep'. But I couldn't go back to sleep so yeah, it's been a long day."
Have you met any of the other actors/guests yet?
"No, not really, more in passing, like in the green room. But I was with Allison earlier..."
She seems so nice...
"Yeah, she's such a sweet girl/person and a very good actress too. Who else is here? Justin?..." (I think he said Alan here too.)
*We told him who the other guests were.*
Your character on Smallville kinda changed rapidly. By the end of the season he'd done a complete role reversal...
*laughs* "Yeah! He was a really nice guy - was supposed to be a nice guy. But I guess they thought they couldn't have two nice guys on the same show, you know my character and Tom, uh
*laughter* And Jensen tells us how after he'd gotten the part of Dean the network demanded he'd be killed off on Smallville so he could do Supernatural.
We tell him it was a good thing they killed Jason off because: hello! he got Supernatural! Jensen agrees it was a good thing his character died on Smallville so he could do Supernatural.
A friend of mine who never watched Smallville asked what he (Jason) died of and said sarcastically 'a meteor'. And I was like; 'IT WAS a meteor.'
"Yeah, it was a meteor."
It was too bad Dark Angel was cancelled. Were you supposed to come back for season three?
"Yeah, I was actually signed up for several more seasons when the show got cancelled."
Someone mentions what a shocker cancellation it was - announced renewal and then a day or so after it gets cancelled.
"Jessica was actually on the platform to fly in to
It's been a very emotional season for Dean...
"Yeah!! Exhausting. Like I said in the panels earlier you get completely drained after doing a scene like that. Heavy stuff. The end of 2.21 was like that but especially the first part of 2.22. That was the hardest scene for me since at least 40 episodes. There were a lot of journalists/reporters and web bloggers there that day. I did the scene and was completely wiped afterwards. Said I couldn't do any interviews right then and they were very cool about it - and I got back to them later. There was a scene by a cliff (CSPWDT) with Dean crying that was really hard. I was completely wiped and drained afterwards and just started walking down the road. Jared followed, walked up behind me and put his arm around my shoulder and said; 'that was a relly good scene, man'."
We tell Jensen we've cried with his character and it's been a lot of emotional, get-us-crying scenes this season.
*smiles* "My mom called me up a while ago and she was like; (in a sobbing voice:) 'You can't keep doing this to me. I'm a mess'."
Is it hard to get the right emotion? To cry?
"It is. I worked on a soap opera when I started out and the women I worked with could cry on cue, said it's like a muscle and you just turn it on. But guys, I, can't do that. I have to like really get into it - work up the emotion, think about real horrible stuff that have happened to me or what I'm afraid would happen to me or my family. So after I've done a scene like that I'm so tired and my body is drained."
Was it fun playing exaggerated Dean in Tall Tales?
"The bar scene you mean?"
Yeah.
"Yeah, it was a lot of fun...especially with the girl in the bar." *smiles*
People didn't respond very well to the Jo character.
"No, they didn't. At first she was supposed to be a love interest for Dean but it didn't quite take off. But we want them to bring on more series regulars to take some workload off of our (Jared and Jensen's) shoulders. They wanted to work them in as regulars. We're very happy to have Bobby, Jim Beaver, and Samantha. They are cool and real good actors."
We've heard you guys do most of your own stunts...
"Yeah, we do a lot ourselves. We're pretty fit, try to work out whenever we can. It's hard sometimes to go up that one hour earlier to exercise...But we like to do as many stunts as we can ourselves. It looks so much better when the actor do that stuff themselves. Plus, we're guys, we like it, and they can't stop us. (Somewhere in here Jensen talked about his stunt double Todd something who's been his stunt double since Dark Angel. He said Todd was joking about having to get dressed up just like Jensen for the Dean character but then just having to sit around all day because Jensen does most of his own stunts.) There was one scene where we were supposed to slide up to a headstone and hide behind it, and I was like; 'How are we gonna do this if we're supposed to slide and cross each others' paths? I don't want to get hit in the face by Jared's foot...' and the guy has some big feet!"
*laughter*
"So I told Kim Manners, who directed the episode, that I could jump over the headstone and kind of land doing a roll and then get in position behind the stone. And Kim said 'Really? That's awesome! Let's do it.' And then it hit me... Can I actually do that? I'm 29. I'm kinda old."
*laughter*
We talk about Supernatural being in such a tough timeslot and whether or not there'll be a third season...
"Yeah, a real tough timeslot with the #1 and #2 shows on at the same time. 40 million viewers are watching those shows. Yet we keep consistent ratings. I feel pretty positive about a third season. If we get it it's probably because it's doing so well internationally. I was in
That's awesome! Supernatural is doing real well here in
"Yeah."
It's doing good in
"Really? That's good." (Or something like that...can't really remember what he said when he answered my questions/comments.)
And in
Another girl: It would do real well in
*laughter*
"It's doing well in
It must be frustrating when the show does so good internationally, and in the
"Yeah. We put down a lot of hours (15-16 hours a day, 5 days a week, Jensen said during one of the panels) and hard work and it feels unappreciative when the ratings are that low."
And especially with season two being such a great season...
"Yeah."
Dean eats a lot and all the time... (Here all of us, including Jensen, recounted the season two episodes where he's eaten a lot...Folsom Prison Blues, Tall Tales, Hollywood Babylon etc. etc....)
"Yeah. In reality Jared's the one always stuffing his face with food. I'm not a big eater....I mean I eat, but not THAT much. So it's a little weird I'm the one eating all the time on the show. (He says something about a crew member, when they were doing the first season, coming up with the idea that Dean should be a big eater. Jensen says they established this trait of Dean's in the first season - especially in 'Nightmare' when he ate those sausages, but that Dean's eating habits have been more prominent in the second season.) In the Djinn episode (Jensen kept referring to 'What is and what should..' as the Djinn episode.) when I was eating my mom's sandwich...It was a huge sandwich..."
Yeah, it was huge.
"...And it was toasted and real hard and when I took a bite of it, it scratched the corners of my mouth... (Jensen shows us where..lol) ...and I had to do like 5 or 6 takes of eating this sandwich and I couldn't spit it out in between shots so I had to eat it."
*Looks as if he's in pain*
In Tall Tales it was so funny when you had your mouth filled with candy. (She says something about his mouth being so big...lol...and that it was cool how much candy he could actually get in there...)
*Jensen laughs*
"Yeah. They were very sugary and even if I spitted them out after each take the inside of my mouth felt coated with sugar." (He makes sounds of discomfort and moves his jaw and mouth like the inside of his mouth is coated with sugar.)
*laughter*
"In the gag reel for the season two DVD... (Yes, that's right girls and boys, we get a gag reel for the season two DVD as well!! Jensen mentioned the gag reel twice - in our coffee lounge and once in the panels. Will tell you later what he said in the panels about another gag reel sequence.) ...there's actually an entire sequence of me just eating for several minutes."
*laughter*
"Are you all up to date with the series?"
All of us except for two says we are. One person says she tries to keep away from spoilers and the other girl says she's watching it as it airs in Britain and has only seen as far as 'Born under a bad sign'. Someone mentions that unfortunately the rule of the con is that we can only discuss the eps up until 'Born under a bad sign'. (Remember, Jensen mentioned the jumping over a headstone and doing the roll as he landed earlier. That scene is from AHBL part 2 as you might've noticed. So he gave us a spoiler without being aware of it or if he was aware he didn't tell us what ep the scene was in. I remember thinking when he spoke about the scene that I couldn't recall any scenes where he jumped over a headstone like that. Well, I got my answer when I watched the season finale.) The talks we had about being up to date with the
(something about Ellen being alive)"Oops...spoiler! Sorry!"
*We just laugh it off*
A person in the room, the organisers friend or one of the stewards, says we got two more minutes until Jensen has to leave.
*Jensen leans forward in his chair and kinda claps his hands together once and says in a kinda hurried voice (wanting to offer us two real good last minutes):*
"Alright. Any more questions?"
Someone says something about the Djinn episode and the Dream Reality Dean ended up in (Can't remember exactly what the question was.)
"I think, and this is just my own opinion, that Dean was actually wishing more for the thing (the life of hunting that Dean and Sam were thrown into after their mom's death) to have never happened rather than actually wishing his mom and everyone else to be alive. But it still wasn't a perfect world because their dad was dead and Dean and Sam didn't get along at all."
Me, feeling like I should at least say one more thing before Jensen has to leave say something I already know the answer to... (I just wanted to say something and since we were already talking about the Djinn episode...:)
Me: Wasn't Jeffrey Dean Morgan supposed to be in that episode?
*Jensen flashes me the most beautiful smile ever, his eyes glittering (teasingly, I think lol)*
"He's a big movie star now. He was doing a movie when we shot the episode. So they killed him. Stroke was it?"
(Everyone:) Yeah.
Me: Just like his character in Grey's Anatomy.
"I talked to him and I was like; 'You're coming back but you're not doing so good then either."
*laughter*
Someone asks about all the weapons Jared and Jensen get to play with and how they know how to use them. If they knew anything about guns before they started on the show.
"There's a guy on set, an armour guy, which means a weapon specialist and he's taught us how to use different weapons, how to pick them apart and how to put them back together."
Jensen then tells us how this armour guy gave them tons of information and what he did when he showed him and Jared how to use the weapons. Jensen pretends to be this armour guy and starts babbling about different parts of the weapons, the muzzle, the arrow, etc etc and then shows how to fire a shotgun with sound effects and all. lol. Then he jokes about how after having seen this guy in full action, firing weapons and stuff (which was meant to make them feel more comfortable with the weapons), he was even more afraid of them. Jensen never said he was afraid but he showed us how he picked up a gun after the armour guy's presentation and his hand was shaking and he acted all nervous and scared. LOL
*LAUGHTER*
"I try to keep up to date with how each weapon works. Practise with them a lot. I'm a guy after all."
Steward: OK TIME'S UP.
"It was nice to meet you all, nice talking to ya..."
You too. Nice to meet you.
*a lot of exchanged pleasantries*
ETA: Jensen tells us he's going to bed. lol (This was around 6 PM. Poor guy, must've been really exhausted. Still, he showed up for Jason Manns' performance later that evening and even went onstage to join his buddy for one song. Jensen is the coolest guy ever!) End ETA.
One of Jensen's bodyguards tells Jensen to wait in the room for a bit so they can clear the hall before he walks out. Jensen says okay and puts on his green jacket.
*I turn around to look at Jensen one last time before I leave. He looks up at me and smiles and says: 'Take care.'*
Before I'm out the door I hear one of the stewards say 'It went well. With all that happened this morning (Jensen being attacked) none of them (us girls) dared leave their seats.'
-------------
One more thing: I'm not sure if the following was said during one of the panels or during our coffee lounge with Jensen but there was a question whether or not he believes in ghosts:
Jensen says; 'I've answered this question before. And no, I'm a bit of a realist and don't really believe in that stuff.' Follow-up question: 'If you did believe in them would you be scared of ghosts?' Jensen replies; 'No, because now I know how to kill them. Give me some salt and I'm good to go.'
------------
Note: I might’ve missed some things that were said. I’m not sure.

Comments
Am I the only one who's commented so far?! Wow
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU for posting this for us, I'm glad you got the opportunity to speak with Jensen, even though I'm insanely jealous haha. I'll be honest, I was hanging around in the lobby wiating for him to come up for his coffee talk with you guys and when he walked out of the lift, man did he look tired. Poor man *pets*
And Andy, hehe, I thought he was fun!
Nicely written, nicely recapped, memories for life :) Much love!

I'm glad you enjoyed reading the transcript.

10 people won seats for the coffee lounge that was on Saturday, May 12.
And another 10 people won seats for the coffee lounge that was on Sunday, May 13.
A total of 20 people were offered the chance to talk to Jensen in a more private place. I know one person didn't show up for the coffee lounge I attended so we were only 9 girls talking to Jensen that day.
If everyone who won on Sunday went to the coffee lounge, then it was a total of 19 people who met Jensen in a coffee lounge that weekend.
i would of asked him some other questions
besides spn
Honestly, I just wanted to talk to the guy. I did, and he was very nice to us, so for me it didn't really matter what we talked about.
But I must say I was happy he told us about the S2 gag reel and I really liked his comment about his mom calling him up. That way it felt like we had more of a normal conversation, you know?
Of course, everyone wants to know more about Jensen's personal life and all the behind the scenes stuff... But Jensen has said he wants his private life to remain private. I totally respect that and would never ask him about that stuff against his wishes.
My sister was in that coffe bar too so it's great to read what happened. I think she was too distracted by Jensen to remember all that was said :D
Who was your sister? I might remember her. Was she sitting two chairs from Jensen?
Yeah it really doesn't seem like a week ago, so many good memories.
I even met a Lady once who seemed as unsure of what to do as me. I'd gone to their house to deliver a Christmas card from my residents in thanks for the Christmas tree they'd donated and she wondered if they'd like a Christmas card as well. This was after I'd tapped on the window because I couldn't find the post box thinking she worked there. Talk about embarrassed but she was cool.
I would have been surprised if Jensen hadn't come across well because in every interview I've seen the worse I can think is he seems overawed by the attention.
The series is now a real success here in Russia too! I love it!
Btw, yay for the third season. (At least I'll get to see him on TV.) ;)
PS. That's great that the show does well in Russia too.
I was in that coffee club too, probably sat near you cos I was right across from him too - I was one that didn't say anything lol. I just got lost in his eyes and it was all a bit of a blur. Really enjoyed reading all about it and bringing back memories!! don't think I have much chance of winning a ticket again this year though!!
